APCD 2018
Impact of Obstructive Sleep Apnea on Systemic Health
The lecture "Impact of Obstructive Sleep Apnea on Systemic Health" given by me to students of the Specialization Course in Orthodontics at APCD (Paulista Association of Dentists) of São José dos Campos highlighted the influence of SAHOS (Apnea Syndrome and Obstructive Sleep Hypopnea) in human health.
Every individual has an internal biological clock at the molecular level that regulates metabolic functions and maintains internal balance. It is a circadian cycle (lasts about a day) that can be altered by the presence of some factors, one of them may be Obstructive Sleep Apnea.
The consequences of sleepless nights due to the presence of Snoring and/ or Obstructive Sleep Apnea and the impact on health were explained; increasing the risk of the individual having hypertension, Infarction, stroke, depression, sexual impotence, type 2 diabetes and obesity.
I listed all forms of treatment, with emphasis on the Oral Appliance Therapy, which is the area of operation of the dentist.
